Sea Captain Course - Commander of a Marine Recreational Vessel

Level C – coastal navigation at sea with a limitation to a distance of no more than 12 nautical miles from the coast, the license holder is authorized to sail at sea if the wind force does not exceed 4° Beaufort scale

You need a license if your recreational craft has:
– total length from 2.5 m – 24 m
– the main engine power is more than 4 kW
– the area of the basic sail is greater than 12 m2

Grade C

To be issued a license to operate a recreational marine vessel, the following are required:

• age 18+
• complete a theoretical qualification course and exam
• Radiotelephone operator license for maritime mobile services, category G – you can get it from us
• provide proof of sailing experience at sea 200Nm / 100 engine hours
• to pass a practical exam

The choice of practical exam is made by agreement during/after the course (motorboat only, or motorboat and sailboat)

Documents (nautical experience, practical exam) can be submitted within 18 months of the theoretical exam, the theoretical exam will not be failed until then, and the license will be issued afterwards.

After successfully completing the theoretical and practical part, you will receive a lifetime sea captain's license, which entitles you to lead a vessel up to 24m in length and 12 people around the world up to a distance of 12Nm from the coast and the last island.

Information about the theoretical course and exams:

Lectures and exams for the Maritime Course and Radiotelephonist are held in the training facilities in the building of Lodenica SPaP, as Vlčie hrdlo 77, Port of Bratislava

The price includes:

• 3 days of lectures in an air-conditioned room in the port's shipyard, where theory is appropriately combined with illustrative examples and demonstrations of docked vessels
• theoretical exams conducted by our expert lecturers, approved by the Maritime Authority of the Ministry of Transport and Communications of the Slovak Republic in our training facilities in the Port – Shipyard SpaP, as Bratislava
• scripts, materials for your exam preparation, navigation aids, working maps
• light snacks such as coffee, tea, mineral water, biscuits, fruit

Practical exam and training, one of the options appliesg>

1. Applicants without experience 200 NM:

After completing the theoretical courses and passing the exams in Bratislava, you can complete a 4-day intensive skipper course on a sailboat at sea in Croatia. You will receive quality training with a Slovak certified instructor approved by the Maritime Authority. You do not have to take the practical exam in Slovakia, it is included in the price of the training. Afterwards, we will request the issuance of a license for sailboats, motorboats and jet skis, without any restrictions on its validity and for the whole world.

We also offer weekly practical training at sea for groups to gain skills in maneuvering a large sailboat in the spring/autumn period.

2. Applicants with at least 200 NM of experience:

Practical exam / training in the Slovak Republic
for participants with individually acquired experience at sea of at least 200 NM on a sailboat, or 100 MT on a motorboat.
For those who have sufficient experience and skills in maneuvering a vessel at sea, the exam takes place on our vessel with our instructor.

3. Practical exam with training:

For those interested in learning how to maneuver a motorboat or sailboat, we offer additional fitness sailing and practical training under the guidance of our instructor, certified by the Maritime Authority.

1.5 hours motorboat/ 2 hours sailboat – 200 EUR/ number of participants 1

3 hours motorboat / 4 hours sailing boat – 180 EUR/person, number of participants 2

7 hours sailing boat of sea size – 250 EUR/person, number of participants 4

The Maritime Authority reserves the right to change the exam date if necessary. Theoretical exams are usually held 2-3 weeks after the course, from 8:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.
